Citrus insurance state program was introduced to the farmers in the region of Adjara
The Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, within the framework of the agroinsurance program, allows farmers to insure citrus from the risk of autumn freezing. The state co-participation contribution to the insurance policy amounts 70%. In case of engagement in the project, insurance policies for the farmers owning citrus orchards will cover the following insurance risks: hail, floods, hurricanes and autumn freezing.
Natalia Kharatishvili, Head of Operations Department of the Agriculture and Rural Development Agency, along with TiteAroshidze, the Minister of Agriculture of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, met the local farmers and provides them with detailed information on the program.
As in previous years, state participation in the insurance for all cultures, except for vines, remains 70%; the insurance for the vine will be 50%. Within the scopes of the agro-insurance program, the insurance policy will cover the following insurance risks: hail, floods, hurricanes, autumn freezes for citrus crops. Any natural person or a legal entity owning, using or factually possessing the rural land plot of no more than 5 ha may participate in the agro-insurance program. Only the crop grown on land registered with the LEPL National Agency of Public Registry will be subject to insurance. Also, the insurer or landowner who wishes to participate in the project must register with the Farm Registry. The waiting period is 4 days from the date of issuance of the insurance policy.
As of July, 2009, 13,565 policies have been issued under the Agro-Insurance Program. Various crops worth GEL 111,084,542 were insured. A total of 12,976 ha of land is insured. In total, the Agencys subsidy amounted to GEL 5,624,543. Losses reimbursed in 2019 amounted to GEL 245,228.
State financial support has given entrepreneurs an extra push to expand and develop their production. Agriculture and Rural Development Agency implements the unified agro-project, which is designed for long-term development and aims to create an environment conducive to increasing competitiveness in agriculture, steady growth of high-quality production and implementation of international food safety standards.
