Number of farmers benefiting from Agroinsurance program is 40% higher than in the same period of 2019
In order to prevent increased agricultural risks due to the natural disasters that became frequent, the Agricultural and Rural Development Agency is urging farmers to get involved in the state agricultural insurance program in a timely manner.
According to the data of April, the number of policies issued under the state agroinsurance program is 7990, which is 40% more than in the same period last year. The land area of more than 7,544 ha is insured, and the value of the insured crop exceeds 74 million GEL.
It is noteworthy that with the change in the anti-crisis plan, the agroinsurance program has become three-year in the case of perennial crop insurance.
For all agricultural crops, except vines, the state co-payment of the value of the policy is still 70%, and for vines, this value amounts 50%. The insurance policy covers the following risks: hail, floods, hurricanes, autumn frosts.
Only the crop harvested in the land registered with the LEPL National Agency of Public Registry is subject to insurance. The beneficiary who wants to be involved in the project is obliged to register in the register of farmers.
All individuals or legal entities who own, use or actually possess no more than 5 ha (in case of wheat crop insurance, not more than 30 ha) agricultural land can participate in the agroinsurance program. This restriction does not apply to agricultural cooperatives. In the case of an agricultural cooperative, the amount of the premium to be paid by the Agency to one insurer / beneficiary shall not exceed GEL 50,000.
The state agroinsurance program has been operating since 2014. To date, the compensation for damage to farmers over the past 6 years has amounted to GEL 38,252,017.
