Deadline for insurance of citrus harvest shall be November 5 th
The Ministry of Environment Protection and agriculture, allows farmers to insure citrus from the risk of autumn frosts within the framework of the Agricultural Insurance Program. The co-participation of the state in the insurance policy amounts to 70%. In case of involvement in the project, the insurance policy shall cover the following insurance risks for farmers of citrus gardens: hail, flood, storm and autumn frost.
The private insurance companies engaged in the state project will be able to insure citrus harvest until November 5, by considering the interests of farmers.
Any physical or legal entity which owns, uses, or actually possesses an agricultural land, including no more than 5 ha of land parcel can participate in Agroinsurance Project.
It must be noted that according to the amendments made to the project, only that farmer with registered land parcel can take advantage of the state Agroinsurance.
According to the data of September 2018, throughout Georgia, 12,170 policies have been issued within the framework of the Agro Insurance Project; the project covers 7,460 beneficiaries; the sum of the insurance premium subsidy amounted to 4,395,237 GEL. 11,432 ha of land is insured and the harvest value in total is 84,929,988 GEL.
