New Bay Leaf Processing Enterprise Launched In the Framework of the United AgroProject
The Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Georgia Giorgi Chkheidze together with the Governor of Imereti Region Givi Tchitchinadze and the Director of Agricultural Projects Management Agency Mamuka Kvaratskhelia visited the laurel leaf processing enterprise Georgian bayleaf Ltd. created in the framework of the United AgroProject. They surveyed the production process of this enterprise equipped according to the modern standards.
The financial support for establishing an enterprise was provided within the framework of the Project for Co-financing of New Agricultural Production Processing and Storage Enterprises. The investments implemented amounts to 597,482 USD, where the state co-financing amounts to 239,000 USD.
The company produces 236 tons of different quality laurel leaves annually and uses only local raw material. The product is fully realized in export markets. There are 53 people employed in the factory.
By the end of 2017, the company will introduce the International Food Safety Standard - ISO 22:000 with the support of USAID/REAP and Agricultural Projects Management Agency.
From 2013 to present, 165 new and more than 750 operating enterprises have been financed within the United AgroProject, out of which 8 new enterprises have been created and 75 enterprises reequipped/expanded in Imereti.
The financial support of the state has given a challenge to entrepreneurs to develop and expand their enterprises. Within the framework of the project Produce in Georgia for Rapid Development, the Agriculture Projects Management Agency is implementing the United AgroProject designed for long-term development and its purpose is to promote the increase of competitiveness in agriculture and stable growth of high quality products.
