New Fruit Processing Plant Opened in Mtskheta
A new fruit processing plant the Caucasus Organic Fruits Ltd equipped with modern standards has been opened in Mtskheta within the framework of the Uniform AgroProject.
The total volume of investment spent for the enterprise amounts 1 700 000 USD, from which the state co-financing is 250 000 USD and 500,000 USD - preferential agro credit. The company produces more than 50 tons of dried fruit per year, for which it uses only the local raw materials. Products are exported and sold in EU countries. 58 people are employed in the enterprise.
Mr. Levan Davitashvili, the Minister of Agriculture spoke about the importance of implementation of similar projects at the opening ceremony of the enterprise.
A new enterprise, opened within the frames of the Uniform AgroProject, meets the highest international standards; it has implemented the FSSC 22000. This is a clear result of the state project for continuing the processing industry. It is important that the enterprise will receive fruit and different products of primary production from the agricultural cooperatives and produce the highest quality dried fruit from these raw materials. I think, such enterprises play an important role in the value chain and promote further strengthening and development of the farmers' production Mr. Levan Davitashvili declared.
Mr. Otar Lomidze, Quality Control Manager of the Caucasus Organic Fruits Ltd stated that opening of a processing enterprise could not be achieved without the support of the state. In the future, the Caucasus Organic Fruits Ltd plans to expand and actively cooperate with agricultural cooperatives.
According to Mr. Levan Zautashvili, the Governor of Mtskheta-Mtianeti region, this is the 9th new enterprise opened with the assistance of the Agriculture Projects Agency in the region. Another nine enterprises were re-equipped and expanded with the help of the same Agency. According to the Governor, opening of similar types of enterprises is very important for the region, as it promotes agricultural development and employment of local population.
Along with Mr. Levan Davitashvili, the Minister of Agriculture and Mr. Levan Zautashvili, the Governor of Mtskheta-Mtianeti region the opening ceremony of the fruit processing new plant was attended by Mr. Mamuka Kvaratskhelia, the Director of Agriculture Projects Management Agency.
