With the support of the Rural Development Agency, a new blueberry storage and processing enterprise was launched in the Samegrelo region
2.3 million GEL was invested for the establishment of an enterprise equipped with modern standards in the city of Khobi. The company "Blue Bird Berries" received a grant of 500,000 GEL from the Rural Development Agency and used a preferential agro-credit of 1.4 million GEL.
The enterprise can store and process 600 tons of blueberries seasonally. "Blue Bird Berries" company employs more than 25 locals. The products are intended for both export and local markets.
The first deputy minister of environment protection and agriculture, Giorgi Khanishvili and the state representative of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region, Giorgi Guguchia, got acquainted with the process of preparing blueberries for sale in the newly opened enterprise.
„State programs cover all components of the blueberry value chain, supporting not only the cultivation of orchards and the creation of enterprises, but also contribute to the introduction of international standards in order for local farmers to produce competitive products," said the First Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture, Giorgi Khanishvili.
According to Giorgi Guguchia, State Representative of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region, the support of the state is very important both for entrepreneurs and local residents who work in such enterprises.
In the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region, within the framework of the co-financing program of processing and storage enterprises of the Rural Development Agency, 21 enterprises are co-financed, the state co-financing amounted to more than 10.5 million GEL. Within the framework of "Plant the Future" program, blueberry culture is planted on 1,300 ha in the Samegrelo region, and the state co-financing amounts to more than 23.9 million GEL.
