First Harvest in the Frames of “Plant the Future”
In the frames of the Plant the Future Project, Otar Zaridze planted a new orchard in the Gori district of Kartli Region, in 2015. The Agriculture Minister Levan Davitashvili and the Governor of the Shida Kartli Kakha Samkharadze, visited the apple garden of Otar Zaridze, one of the beneficiaries of the program, in the village of Korbi, Gori region, and attended the harvesting process. Otar Zaridze involved in the program in 2015 and received 39,900 GEL state funding for planting an apple garden on 3.99 hectares and arrangement of irrigation system. 29,988 GEL from the received funds were intended for nursery plants and 9,912 GEL for drip systems. Otar Zaridze planted 4 different varieties of plants on his land and has received 50 tons of apples of the first harvest this year. 10 people are employed in the garden. The beneficiary has also benefited from another state support program and has received 175,000 GEL as preferential agro credit for arranging/expanding the garden. Within the frames of the Plant the Future project, total 1,169 ha of land in the Shida Kartli region were planted with different cultures of perennials, while the total funding amounted to GEL 7,703,963. As of today, the total area intended for the cultivation of new orchards and arrangement of irrigation systems all over Georgia is estimated at 3,600 hectares and the amount of financing totals 18,202,307 GEL.
