Hazelnut processing enterprise in Zugdidi
Minister of Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili together with the Governor of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region Levan Shonia, Director of the Laboratory of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irakli Guledani and Deputy Director of Agricultural Projects Management Agency Alexander Nasaridze visited and got acquainted with production operations of LTD GN Companys nut processing enterprise on-site in Zugdidi Municipality. Hazelnut processing enterprise was launched and operated in August 2015 through co-financing project ,,Agro - Processing and Storage Enterprises" of Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia. Totally US $557 412 was invested in the enterprise, out of which US $ 222 906 is a grant and US $ 278 706 is a Preferential Agro-credit. Presently 23 people are employed in the hazelnut processing company ltd GN Company. The company annually produces 396 tons of various types of goods roasted kernels of hazelnuts, chopped roasted kernels / flour. The above mentioned products are targeted for export to the EU countries. It is noteworthy, that in the near future "GN Company" shall receive an international standard ISO: 22 000 through the support of the Agricultural Projects Management Agency and USAID / REAP in the near future. The ISO: 22 000 standard licenses volume amounts to US 8.980 dollars. From the total funding, US $ 2694 has been contributed by the Agricultural Projects Management Agency, while the funding of USAID / REAP reached to US $ 4,490, and as for the remaining due part of US $ 1,796 it was covered by the beneficiary itself. For the present moment the company is awaiting the final audit report, which will be available at the end of October month and Ltd "GN Company will receive a certification at the end of November.
153 new enterprises have been funded under the Governmental support in the frame of the United Agro Project. It is of great importance , that new enterprises have been equipped with modern technical utilities and the implementation of international standards is being developed , that will further contribute to the competiveness of the processed production and increase the export potential " - Levan Davitashvili said. According to the statement of the Governor of Samegrelo region Levan Shonia the company is planning to further expand in the future, that will promote to increase of the production, creation of more working-places and will support the local employment and overall economic improvement . Since 2013 year , the Agricultural Projects Management Agency of the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia is carrying out a number of projects in order to create new enterprises. The entrepreneurs have got stimulation from financial aid of the state agricultural programs in order to develop and expand their production.
At the current stage, more than 700 enterprises along with 150 new ones received a financial aid under the united agro project framework. The United Agro Project is designed to meet a long-term development goals and it aims to promote the competitiveness of the agricultural sector, growth of a high-quality production, provision of food safety / security issues.
