The new hazelnut processing enterprise LTD Geodemos equipped with modern standards was launched in 2015 in the Tsalenjikha Municipality, through financing support program of the Agricultural Project Management Agency . The hazelnuts are being purchased by the company from over the 2000 local farmers, at present time 90 people are employed and annually it produces 550 tons of calibrated hazelnut core, which in 100 % is targeted for the export market. On the October month of 2016, the British Company Lloyds Register Assurance Quality has awarded to LTD Geodermo ISO 22000:2005 Certificate. This was accomplished through the frame of collaboration of the Agricultural Projects Management Agency and USAID / REAP which aims the implementation of food safety management systems and standards into the beneficiary enterprises under the joint support and co-financing of USAID / REAP and Agricultural Projects Management Agency (50% - USAID/REAP, 30% - Agency and 20%- company ). In the result of certification it is expected that LTD Geodermo shall be capable to sell its production by 20 cent more expensively (cent/kg) and will establish business-contacts with more foreign buyers. Presently, under the USAID / REAP and Agency agreement framework, the USAID / REAP and Agency are implementing their support additionally to 11 agro business sectors in order to accomplish the development of HACCP system and ISO 22 000 standard.
