“Tamaris Tea” - tea plantation rehabilitation program

The rehabilitation of tea plantation in Imereti region was carried out by the agricultural cooperative “Tamaris Tea” within the frameworks of the project “Georgian Tea”. Cooperative joined to the program on January 13, 2017 year and rehabilitation of tea plantations on 15.1 ha was carried out. Rehabilitations works costs amounted to 37.735 GEL; out of this 80%, i.e. 30.188 GEL was funded by the Agricultural Projects Management Agency. All necessary machinery for primary processing of tea will be transferred to the above mentioned cooperative by the Agency after full fructification (24-36 months) free of charge. 37 beneficiaries are involved in the program “Georgian Tea” across Georgia. Total area of tea plantations to be rehabilitated comprises to 1,024 ha; total investment amounts to 2,553,517 GEL, 1,776,613 GEL of which is state co-financing. Program “Georgian Tea” was launched in 2016 year and its purpose is effective utilization of potential of tea plantations of Georgia and promotion of increase of production of local tea (including bio tea).
