Adjarian tea - from Kobuleti to Mongolia
Levan Okropiridze is the one among those who benefited from the agro-credit and developed his agricultural production. Mr. Okropiride is from Adjara; he lives in Kobuleti and operates his Tea Processing Plant there. Mr. Levan is a lawyer and, as he mentions, his profession is helping him in doing his business.
Everything started 20 years ago, when Mr. Levan met his future Mongolian partners and friends. They wanted to bring any product to market in Mongolia; they studied the local market and took an option on tea business.
In 1993 they decided to establish the company "Emir", which would process the green tile tea and export to Mongolia. After some time, having studied this field well and considering the potential of the market, Levan decided to revive the company. The Agro Credit, about which he learned from the TV, helped him considerably in achieving his goal.
Levan took the loan, built a modern plant and expanded the production. At present, the company “Emir” employs 30 people; the plant is operable and provides with proper working environment to its employees. The company purchases tea for processing from the plantations in Imereti and Samegrelo. Currently the company produces only the leafy tea, but Levan has the desire to produce the one-time tea and realize it in Georgian market. Tea materials for the production of the “Emir” tile tea (Lao Tea) are the rough leaves remaining after the first picking. Levan plans to increase the productivity in future; he emphasizes the significant role of Agro-credit and notes that without this credit it would be difficult, if not impossible to fulfill his plans.
Levan has a wife and three daughters, two of them are students and one - a school pupil. He thinks the girls shall be the worthy successors for his business.
