The EU-UNDP Rural Development Program promotes rural entrepreneurship
Zakaria Iakobishvili, an individual entrepreneur, modernized a small furniture enterprise with the support of the Rural Development Program in Dedoplistskaro Municipality; he received a grant of GEL 29,000 for this purpose. As a result, with the increase of production in the enterprise, the number of employees also increased.
Tornike Kapanadze, Head of the Project Management and Technical Assistance Department of the Rural Development Agency and Giorgi Tsimintia, Coordinator of the UNDP Rural Development in Georgia got acquainted with the ongoing work process in the furniture enterprise.
With the support of the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Rural Development Agency is implementing a non-agricultural business program. Within this Program, 6 million GEL co-financing has been issued. About 60 beneficiaries were funded - noted Tornike Kapanadze, Head of the Project Management and Technical Assistance Department of the Rural Development Agency.
According to Giorgi Tsimintia, Coordinator of the UNDP Improvement in Rural Development in Georgia, the Non-Agricultural Business Financing Program has been implemented in rural regions for many years within the framework of the EU-UNDP initiative in partnership with the Government of Georgia. The budget of the Program is 9 million GEL.
The Rural Development Program is implemented in Keda, Khulo, Borjomi, Akhalkalaki, Tetritskaro, Kazbegi, Lagodekhi and Dedoplistskaro municipalities.
The Rural Development Program is implemented by the Rural Development Agency (RDA) with the support of the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) under the European Neighborhood Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development (ENPARD).
