In 2019 the State continues to implement the agroinsurance program. In Mtskheta, the project manager Natalia Kharatishvili met with local farmers along with Irakli Tskitishvili, deputy governor of Mtskheta-Mtianeti region.

At the meeting the Program Manager presented the amendments to the agro insurance program to the farmers and provided detailed information about the project. Like all previous years, the participation of the state will still be 70% except for the vines, where the state participation will be 50%.

In the framework of the Agro Insurance Program, the insurance policy covers the following insurance risks:

• Hail
• Flood
• Storm
• Autumn frost

All natural or legal entities, which have the agricultural land, including the area of ​​no more than 5 hectares (in case of wheat harvest insurance no more than 30 hectares) in the ownership, use or actual ownership can take part in the agro insurance program. Also, any beneficiary can get state co-financing in case of insuring 5 hectares of land from any area of ​​land owned (more than 5 hectares). Insurance can apply only to a crop farmed on the land plot that is registered at the LEPL "National Agency of Public Registry".

Also the insurer or landowner who wants to participate in the project is obliged to register in the Farmers Register.

The timing period is defined for 4 days from the date of issuing the insurance policy. All insurance companies licensed on the territory of Georgia can be involved in the agro insurance program.

The state program of the agro-insurance started in 2014 and has been in progress for 5 years already. The aim of the project is to develop the insurance market in agro-sector, promote agricultural activities, maintain income and reduce risk for persons engaged in agricultural activities. In the framework of the Agro Insurance Program in 2014- 2018:

• 81,453 policies have been issued
• The insured area is 71,413 ha
• In total, harvest worth of 551 million GEL was
• The state has subsidized more than 33 million GEL from the amount payable by farmers for the insurance service. Within 5 years the compensation amounted to more than 35 million GEL.
