Rehabilitation works of tea plantations are carried out at Ozurgeti Region within the framework of the “United Agricultural Project”

Laituri Tea Export Company Ltd carries out rehabilitation works of tea plantations at Guria Region, within the framework of Georgian Tea Project. Levan Urotadze, Manager of Georgian Tea Program and Governor of Guria Merab Chanukvadze, together with representatives of the local self-government visited the company financed in Ozurgeti Region and inspected the rehabilitation works. Laituri Tea Export Company Ltd involved in the program in December of 2016 and carries out rehabilitation of the tea plantations on 24 hectares; Total cost of rehabilitation works amounts to GEL 61,950, from which GEL 43,365 is co-finding of Agriculture Projects Management Agency. This is to be mentioned that the company also plans to rehabilitate tea plantations on other land plots within the framework of Georgian Tea Program. 30 beneficiaries are involved in the Georgian Tea Program across Georgia. The total area of tea plantations to be rehabilitated is 883 hectares, while the total investment amounts to GEL 2,213,657, from which GEL 1,536,332 is state co-funding. The Georgian Tea Program has been implemented since 2016 and its purpose is to use the capacity of tea plantations in Georgia effectively, promote the growth of manufacturing of the local tea (including bio tea), and as a result of the abovementioned, increase self-sustainability level and the export potential. This is also important that it will be possible to rehabilitate both private and state-owned wild tea plantations within the program. Legal entities, including agricultural cooperatives, will receive funding for rehabilitation of tea plantations. Agriculture Project Management Agency, within the framework of Produce in Georgia Business, is implementing the Uniform Agro Project, which is designed for the long-term development and its purpose is to create the environment that will support to improve competitiveness in agriculture, stable growth of manufacturing high quality products, and introduce the International Food Safety Standards.
