Kakheti Farmers Made Aware of the Changes in Agro-insurance Project

The farmers residing in Kakheti Region have made aware of the updated agro-insurance project.Today, in Telavi, the Agricultural Project Management Agency Agro-insurance project manager Levan Magradze met the representatives of the governors administration and farmers of Kakheti Region. The project manager presented the changes made to the agricultural insurance program and detailed information of the project, in the meeting. The state agricultural insurance program took start in 2014 and has been going on for 2 years.According to the changes made in 2016, in the frames of the project, a beneficiary can insure up to 5 ha of land. Each policyholder will receive 70% co-financing instead of 60% for all crops provided by the program, and 50% co-financing instead of 40% - for vine. In case of registration of the land in the public register or insurance of the land with the existed cadastral code, the co-financing will be by 10% more. The agricultural insurance program is designed to develop the insurance market in the agricultural sector and to promote the agricultural activities.In the frames of the program, the farmers are encouraged to insure a crop against hail, excessive rainfall, storm, autumn frost.In 2014- 2015 within the agricultural insurance program: 28,690 policies issued Insured area totals 23,667 ha A total of 193,343,000 GEL crop has been insured Out of the insurance premium paid by the farmers, the state allocated the subsidies worth13,809,000GEL In 2 years the amount of damages incurred by the farmers totaled 12,434,000 GEL.This year, like the previous year, the agro insurance budget amounts to 10 million GEL. The project will last until the end of the year. Since 2013 Agricultural Projects Management Agency implements and manages large-scale long-term projects with the main goal to develop an environment that will help to increase competitiveness in agriculture, high-quality production steady growth, international food safety standards.
