Bay Leaf Processing Enterprise was expanded under the United AgroProject in Khelvachauri region
In the Khelvachauri region, Adjara the Leaflux Ltd has expanded the bay leaf processing plant equipped with modern standards within the framework of the "United AgroProject". The total value of the project amounted to USD 13,000, out of which USD 5,200 is grant and USD 7,800 -beneficiary's participation.
Mr. Giorgi Jibladze, Deputy Director of the Agriculture Projects Management Agency visited the bay leaf processing plant together with Mr. Tite Aroshidze, Minister of Agriculture of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara and got acquainted with the working process.
The plant will process 100-120 tons of raw bay leaves in a year. The Leaflux LLC has employed 22 people and 60 local farmers deliver their harvest annually.
The project is implemented within the framework of "Agro-production Promotion Program " with the support of Agriculture Modernization, Market Access and Flexibility Project" (AMMAR).
The program is funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Global Environment Fund (GEF). The co-financing of the agency envisaged by the program amounts 40% of the total value of the project and the beneficiary's participation is 60%. Since the beginning of the project 418 beneficiaries have received financing and the amount of co-financing by the state amounted to 8,461,806 GEL.
It is noteworthy that since 2013 the financial support of the state has given the entrepreneurs an additional push for development and expansion.
The Agricultural Projects Management Agency implements the "United AgroProject", which is designed for long-term development and aims to create an environment that will facilitate the increase of competitiveness in agriculture, stable growth of high quality products and introduction of international standards of food safety.
