Agricultural Business Forum of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Region
With the initiative of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, the Agro-Investment Business Forum of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Region was held on the territory of the Dadiani Palace in Zugdidi.
The Forum was opened by the Prime Minister of Georgia mr. Mamuka Bakhtadze, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture mr. Levan Davitashvili and Samegrelo Zemo Svaneti Region Governor mr. Alexandre Motserelia.
In his speech, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture referred to the agro-investment potential, stable economic environment and various projects implemented in agriculture in the region. He emphasized all the agro-projects implemented by the state, which contribute to the development of agribusiness in the country and allows local farmers to increase their production.
From 2013 until today, a number of agro-projects implemented in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region has already brought significant results. In particular,
- Within the United AgroProject 25 new enterprises have been created and 45 existing enterprises have been expanded and upgraded.
- More than 2100 new jobs have been created in the region through these enterprises.
- New perennial gardens have been planted on more than 500 hectares of land.
- Rehabilitation of tea plantations over the area of more than 450 hectares has been conducted throughout the region.
As the Minister of Environmentalal Protection and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili noted, similar activities facilitate active communication between the state and the private sector and raise the awareness of the development of the existing agro-production in the region.
Today's Forum is an excellent platform to get aware with the agrarian potential of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region, that enables us to make effective use of it - said mr.Levan Davitashvili.
Within the frames of the event, the agricultural sector specialists made the presentations on cuniculture, berry cultivation, animal farming and bee-keeping. Participants of the Forum reviewed the implemented and ongoing projects of the state and discussed the issues of development on different directions of agrarian sector in the region.
The Agriculturalal Projects Management Agency is implementing the United AgroProject aimed at long-term development of the sector and creation of an environment that will contribute to improving competitiveness in agriculture, stable growth of high quality products and introduction of international standards of food safety.
