Meeting in Samegrelo region – Georgian tea rehabilitation program
The Agriculture Projects Management Agency organized a meeting with the farmers interested in the tea growing in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region. At the meeting held in Anaklia, Mr. Archil Bukia, the Deputy Director of Agricultural Projects' Management Agency together with the representatives of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region summarized the current stage of the program "Georgian Tea" and discussed future plans. The meeting focused on maximal efficient use of tea plantations in the country and promotion to the growth of local tea (including bio tea), which will significantly enhance self-sustaining capacity and increase the country's export potential.
The representatives of the Agricultural Projects' Management Agency introduced to the farmers all the mechanisms that will support local tea products to take it's niche in the market. The meeting held in the format of a discussion was attended by the farmers as well as the representatives of agriculture associations, donor organizations and various international organizations.
As of today, 49 projects of 37 beneficiaries involved in the program "Georgian Tea" have been approved throughout Georgia. The total area of tea rehabilitation plantations is 1,024 hectares. Total investment of the program is 2 553 517 GEL, out of which 1 776 613 GEL is state co-financing.
The program "Georgian Tea" is implemented within the framework of "United Agroproject". The United Agroroject" is implemented by the Agricultural Projects' Management Agency.The goal of the project is to create an environment, that will promote competitiveness in agricultural sector, stable growth of high quality products and introduction of international standards of food safety.
