Representatives of the Rural Development Agency and the United Nations Women's Organization introduced the pilot program of greenhouse farms to local women in Marneuli Municipality
Pilot program provides co-financing the arrangement of greenhouse farms for women. Through the mentioned program, farmer women shall have the opportunity to organize the greenhouse on a small land plot and produce agricultural products throughout a year. No more than 90% (maximum amount 25 000 GEL) sum required for arrangement of greenhouse with area of at least 200 square meters will be financed by the program. Along with financial aid, technical assistance is also envisaged by the program. Pilot program will be implemented in Marneuli and Lagodekhi municipalities; registration in the program will begin on September 20.
Deputy Director of Rural Development Agency, Mrs. Natalia Kharatishvili, Representative of UN Women’s Organization in Georgia, Mrs. Kaori Ishikawa, Chairman of Gender Equality Council of the Parliament of Georgia, Mrs. Nino Tsilosani, State Representative in Kvemo Kartli region, Mr. Giorgi Dokhturishvili and Chairman of Marneuli Municipality Council, Amiran Giorgadze attended the informative meeting held in Marneuli.
According to the statements of the Deputy Director of Rural Development Agency, Mrs. Natalia Kharatishvili, by the program the women of Marneuli and Lagodekhi municipalities will be afforded the opportunity of enhance the economic conditions.
“We are glad for cooperation with Rural Development Agency that is rendering the technical assistance to agricultural activities within the frameworks of the program; UN Women’s Organization supports women. Thus, this is the perfect cooperation between us”, Mrs. Kaori Ishikawa, the representative of UN Women’s Organization in Georgia said.
By initiating the mentioned program, the state declares that women are priority of our policy despite of the fact that the program is not widespread and its pilot version is being implemented in number of municipalities. We concentrated on talking about the needs of women and launching programs tailored to them. Recommendations of Gender Equality Council regarding the land plot ownership and co-financing, were taken into consideration to the maximum extent and this is the only beginning for specialized approaches tailored to women and implementation of relevant programs:, Mrs. Nino Tsilosani, the Chairman of Gender Equality Council of the Parliament of Georgia, said.
Pilot program is implemented within the frameworks of memorandum signed between UN Women’s Organization and Rural Development Agency. The goal of the memorandum is the increase of opportunities of women residing in rural areas, their involvement in the programs of the Agency, development of special initiatives and thus socio-economic empowerment of women.
