Gardens, planted with the support of the state, cover up to 10,000 hectares
"Throughout Georgia, gardens planted within the project" Plant the Future "cover an area of 10,000 hectares, including 3,000 hectares of walnut orchards," Mr. Ilia Tamarashvili, Director of the Rural Development Agency, declared during his visit to the walnut orchard of Babek Niazov, beneficiary of the "Plant the Future" program in Bolnisi Municipality, along with Mr. Kakha Koberidze, Deputy State Governor of Kvemo Kartli.
Farmer Babek Niazov planted a walnut orchard in Zemo Archevani, Bolnisi Municipality as part of the "Plant the Future" program. The farmer received more than 16,000 GEL for the cultivation of a walnut orchard and irrigation system on 4 hectares, including more than 10,000 GEL for purchase of seedlings and more than 6,000 GEL for the installation of a drip irrigation system. This year Babek Niazov is waiting for the first harvest, 5 tons of nuts. 10 locals are employed in the garden.
According to Mr. Kakha Koberidze, Deputy Governor of Kvemo Kartli Region, state programs are an important motivation for the development of local production.
The program "Plant the Future" has been implemented by the Rural Development Agency since 2015. The programs of the Rural Development Agency are designed for long-term development and their goal is to create an environment that will promote sustainable growth in the production of high quality products and the introduction of international food safety standards.
