Annual production of a state-financed blueberry plant reaches 300 tons
Ltd Agrolane - plant equipped with modern standards has been established with the financial support of the State in the village of Vartsikhe, Baghdati Municipality. Total of 2 million GEL has been invested in the enterprise, of which 419,397 GEL is a State Grant and 522,495 GEL - Preferential Agrocredit. The annual production capacity of the plant is processing up to 300 tons of blueberry. The products are sold both in local and export markets. The processing plant employs 28 locals per season.
Ilia Tamarashvili, Director of the Rural Development Agency, together with Besik Gopodze, Deputy Governor of the Imereti Region, visited Ltd Agrolane and got acquainted with the process of harvesting and preparing blueberries for sale.
"The State supports farmers in almost all components of the agricultural value chain, which can be seen in the example of the production of blueberries by Ltd Agrolane. The company owns a blueberry plantation and a state-sponsored modern refrigeration plant where products are made for sale. With the support of the state program, the process of introducing the "Global Gap" standard of agricultural production sample practice is underway in the blueberry garden of Agrolane, and the product is branded with the support of the "Technical Assistance Program", - declared Ilia Tamarashvili, the Director of the Rural Development Agency.
Agrolane Ltd has its own blueberry garden on 6 hectares. The company actively cooperates with farmers owning blueberry plantations in the Imereti region; as a result, the plant of the Agrolane Ltd provides fast cooling, sorting, packaging and sale of the harvest from the 40-hectare orchards.
This year, company with the support of preferential agrocredit, purchased a tractor and machinery needed for various agro-operations; the amount of the preferential agrocredit amounted 105,000 GEL.
