Agroinsurance program have been introduced to Shida Kartli farmers
In 2019, the State continues to implement the agro insurance program.
Natalia Kharatishvili, the head of the project in Gori met with the local farmers together with Nugzar Samkharadze, Deputy Governor of Shida Kartli region. The Program Manager presented the amendments to the agro insurance program and provided detailed information about the project during meeting.
As in previous years, the participation of the state on all cultures, except for the vines, will still be 70%; 50% on the vine. Within the agro insurance program, the insurance policy covers the following insurance risks: hail, flooding, storm, autumn frost.
Any natural or legal entities, which own, use or is in actual ownership of not more than 5 hectares of the agricultural land (in case of grain harvest insurance not more than 30 hectares), including the area, can take part in the agro insurance program. Also, any beneficiary can receive co-financing from the State when insuring 5 hectares of land plot from any area of land owned by it (above 5 hectares).
Only the harvest yielded on the land plot that is registered into LEPL National Agency of Public Registry, will be subject to insurance. Also, the policy holder or landowner who wants to participate in the project shall register oneself in the farmers register.
The down-time period is determined for 4 days from the date of issuing insurance policy.
All insurance companies licensed on the territory of Georgia will be able to engage in the agro insurance program.
The State program of agro insurance started in 2014 and has been in progress for 5 years already. The aim of the project is to develop the insurance market in agro-sector, promote agricultural activities, maintain income and reduce risk for persons engaged in agricultural activities.
In 2014- 2018, within the framework of the Agro Insurance Program:
- 81,453 policies have been issued;
- Insured area is 71,413 ha
- In total, the harvest for 551,366,395 lari was insured
- The State has subsidized 33,854,463 lari from the amount payable by the farmers for the insurance service.
The paid claims for 5 years amounted to 35,343,213 million lari.
