Elene Co. 2015 Ltd, the hazelnut processing enterprise equipped according to the modern standards, was established with the support of the financial assistance program of the N(N)LP Agricultural Project Management Agency in Tsalenjikha Municipality in 2016. The company buys hazelnuts from about 3,000 local farmers; it has 60 employees and processes 1500-2000 tons annually. Currently, the products are realized in both local and export markets. In December 2017, British company Lloyds Register Quality Assurance awarded the ISO 22000:2005 certificate to Elene Co. 2015 Ltd. It was made possible within the frames of cooperation of USAID/REAP and N(N)LP Agricultural Project Management Agency that provides for the introduction of the food safety management systems and standards in beneficiary enterprises through the joint efforts and co-financing by USAID/REAP and APMA (50% - USAID/REAP, 30% - APMA and 20% - the company). It is expected that as a result of certification, Elene Co. 2015 Ltd. will be able to establish business contacts with more foreign buyers. Within the frames of USAID/REAP and APMA Cooperation Agreement, 17 agricultural businesses are now assisted in the implementation of the HACCP System and ISO 22 000 standard.
