The Government of Georgia insures prices on 9 main food products

In order to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus (COVID-19), the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture is supervising the management, logistics and transportation of food supplies, within the framework of the Interagency Coordination Council established under the guidance of the Prime Minister.

In consideration of the regulations related to the prevention of the spread of the new coronavirus in the country, an uninterrupted supply of food to the population is an important task.

It is also important to ensure an uninterrupted provision of the most consumed 9 food products - rice, macaroni products, sunflower oil, wheat flour, sugar, wheat, milk powder, buckwheat and beans - to the extent possible and not to allow a speculative increase of the prices for this products.

In order to insure the risk of price increase for the most consumed 9 food products, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture has developed the public program for maintaining prices for primary consumption food products. The program will be implemented by NNLE Agricultural and Rural Development Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture together with LEPL Revenue Service. For all importing companies that will import 9 products of primary consumption to Georgia from March 15 to May 15, Agricultural and Rural Development Agency will subsidize the exchange rate difference.

A working meeting was held at the initiative of Agricultural and Rural Development Agency with the representatives of the companies importing agricultural products at which the terms and conditions and procedures of the project were introduced to them. According to the representatives of the importing companies, the new project is timely and very important public support, which will primarily facilitate to maintain prices for the basic food products.

The meeting was attended by representatives of up to 30 importing companies.

Detailed information about the new project is available on the website of Agricultural and Rural Development Agency: www.arda.gov.ge. Additional information can be obtained on the following hotline of the Information Service of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture: 15 01.
