The damage caused by hail will be compensated to the beneficiaries of the State Agricultural Insurance Program
Imeda Alkhazishvili, the program coordinator for Agricultural Insurance of the Rural Development Agency, Givi Zautashvili, the Mayor of Kvareli, and the representatives of TBC Insurance met with the farmer, David Kemoklidze, who was affected by the hail, and inspected the damaged vineyard, in Kvareli Municipality.
In the Village Shilda, within the Kvareli municipality, David Kemoklidze suffered from severe hail on June 6, which destroyed 75% of his grape harvest. As a beneficiary of the state agricultural insurance program, David Kemoklidze will receive 42,900 lari from Insurance Company TBC Insurance. He paid 30% for the purchase of the insurance policy, which amounted to 7,015 lari for an area of 4.4 hectares, and received 70% co-financing, 4,911 lari, from the Government.
“Insurance minimizes the extent of damage caused by natural disasters. Under the Agricultural Insurance Program, beneficiaries can insure up to 10 hectares of land, and for grain crops, up to 50 hectares. Furthermore, the insurer can simultaneously cover both grain and other crops. I urge farmers to participate in the state insurance program and insure their harvest,“- stated Imada Alkhazishvili, the Agricultural Insurance Program Manager.
All participants in the State Agricultural Insurance Program receive 70% co-financing for all crops included in the program, including grapes.
Since 2014, insurance companies have issued over 150,700 policies to 65,000 beneficiaries, covering more than 140,000 hectares of land. The total amount of compensated damages exceeds 67 million lari.
