Kaspi as a Hearth of Poultry
Givi Demetrashvili is indigenous inhabitant of Kaspi. He was always thinking about what could have been done for the better future of Kaspi and the whole Georgia. As he recalls, from his youth, he was interested in agriculture and couldn’t imagine himself working in other areas. That is why we decided to build Dutch cow farm in Kaspi, unfortunately, this undertaking did not work and he had to stop this business. However, the failure has lead to great success.
As he says, he was very concerned about those buildings that survived from the previous activities, and unless they were reinforced in a few years they would not prove to be useful. It was at this time, in 2013, that he learned about Preferential Agro Credit from a friend and immediately decided to build a poultry farm through the credit. He recalls, with a smile, that both of his children turned out to be his supporters and got involved in the business. They reinforced farm buildings and arranged infrastructure.
He is happy that the idea of the poultry farm succeeded, because he was able to get to the local market in a very short period of time. As he says, he has always concerned about the fact that the population in Kaspi and Georgia consumed foreign products, as he believed that a farm, which would supply population with local products, might be build in Georgia. Currently, the farm is supplying local market with eggs and chicken meat. He believes that much more things can be done for the development of poultry industry in his native town Kaspi and wants to make Kaspi as a poultry breeding ground.
It is possible to understand from his speech that he a humble person, but you can not hide his pride when we ask him about local residents employed at the farm. He says that currently 15 people are employed at the farm, i.e. their daily working is vital for 15 families. He is also proud of his children, who moved to Kaspi from Tbilisi to support their father and proceed with family business.
According to him, he would not be able to initiate and develop all these without Preferential Agro Credit. In total USD 92 000 was invested in enterprise, wherefrom the amount of preferential credit amounts to USD 77 000.
The new undertaking has given him a faith in the future and wants to contribute to the development of agriculture. Now he is trying to better arrange the existing infrastructure in the farm and equip it with new technologies. Moreover, his success in the poultry business awakened his unfulfilled dreams and in future he is going to plant apple orchards in Kaspi. For this purpose he plans to benefit from the projects offered by the state, because he can not afford it by his own means. He looks to the future with hope and great enthusiasm, because he is committed to working and a large family is supporting him.
