Shaloshvili family wine cellar
Alex Shaloshvili lives in Kakheti, Shilda village in his ancestral home. As he says he had decided to make business in agriculture yet he was young. He graduated from the Institute of Agriculture, the faculty of hydro-reclamation. A. Shaloshvili remembers he tried to be enrolled in the faculty of winery for 2 years; consequently he finished another faculty, but remained a real winemaker in his spirit. After graduating from the Institute, he was allotted to Kakheti as a wine-growing crew chief by the Institute; he recalls with a smile the first year of his performance which very successful: very large amount of crop - 13 000 tons of grapes – was harvested during his work. Then he became the head of the viticulture department, followed by his promotion to the position of a chief agronomist. He proudly says that he was in charge of 1,700 hectares of vineyards in the period of his practicing as an agronomist.
In 1999 he planted his first vineyard in 3 hectares of land, increasing the space up to 15 hectares after the passage of time. He emphasizes that his family has always having a pitcher and a small cellar. Alex Shaloshvili recalls with pride the year of 2009, when he took part in the "Festival of Home-made Wines” in Batumi and his wine produced in 2005 won a gold medal; this was the challenge for him to be driven to seriously pursue the business he does and loves.
Mr. Alex always thought of arranging a new powerful cellar, in 2013 he learned about Agro Credit on the television; he did not think a lot, but immediately went to the bank, wrote a project and received the loan.
Before taking a concessional loan his cellar produced a dry wine on a smaller scale, but could not produce sweet wine, such as Kindzmarauli because the production of sweet wine needed refrigeration business, which did not have Shaloshvilis. With the concessional loans they acquired the bottling plant, a refrigerator and the wine cellar was able to produce sweet wine.
Besides the concessional loans Mr. Alex joined the agricultural insurance program in 2015; according to his information his vineyard beaten down in 2015 as a result of hail, but the damage was reimbursed within the scopes of the insurance and the amount helped him to expand a hotel situated in the middle of the vineyard. The hotel is a family-style where tourists can go to rest, taste the wine and dine.
Mr. Alex tells about some "historic" sticks in the cellar with a special proud – these are the sticks to stir wine in the pitcher. These sticks are 25-30 years old, his father's legacy; immediately upon arrival of autumn, when the time for wine stick stirring gets, he feels as if his father is there and rejoices at his family’s success. He is the father of two sons and a real grandfather of his grandchildren. He is happy his children are involved in the case and proudly emphasized that all the major decisions are made with a direct participation of his children, taking into account their desires.
He has great hopes for the future and thinks about further expansion of his business; he emphasizes the greatest desire to hand down a more beautiful and powerful legacy to the future generations.
