Tea plantations in Vani region will be rehabilitated
LTD Fereta Chai- the Georgian Tea was involved in the state program in 2017. The company carries out rehabilitation of plantations on 18 hectares in Vani municipality, village Fereta. The cost of rehabilitation works amounts to 46,050 GEL, 32,235 GEL of which is funded by the Agriculture Projects Management Agency. Levan Urotadze, Manager of the Georgian Tea Program, together with local self-government representatives inspected rehabilitation works of tea plantations. 40 projects of 32 beneficiaries involved in the program "Georgian tea" have been approved.
The total area of tea plantations to be rehabilitated is 937 hectares, and the total investment amounts to 2348 614 GEL, 1631 945 GEL of which is state co-financing. The program "Georgian Tea" has been implemented since 2016 aimed at efficient utilization of tea plantation potential in Georgia, promotion of the development of local tea production (including biotea), enhancement of self-sufficient capacity and increase of export potential. It is worth noting that within the program it is possible to rehabilitate private as well as state owned tea plantations. Legal entities, including agricultural cooperatives, are granted funds for rehabilitation of tea plantations.
Agricultural Project Management Agency is implementing the "United AgroProject", which is intended for a long-term development and aims at creating such an environment which shall promote the enhancement of competitiveness in Agriculture, stable growth of production of high quality products and the establishment of international standards of food safety.
