AgroInsurance Project is underway

Since the current year the State will co-participate in AgroInsurance Project which will amount to 70% of all cultures and 50% of vine. Any natural or legal entity, who owns, uses or has in actual ownership the agricultural plot of not more than 5 hectares (no more than 30 hectares in case of wheat harvest insurance) can participate in the AgroInsurance Project. Also, any beneficiary who owns 30 hectares or 100 hectares can receive co-financing by the State when 5 hectares of land is insured. In the framework of the AgroInsurance Project, the insurance policy will cover the following insurance risks: hail, flood, hurricane, fall frost. From year to year the project is undergoing changes and is being improved by the international standard. The involvement of farmers in the project is significantly increasing. Unlike previous years, under the initiative of the Ministry of Environment Protection and the Ministry of Agriculture, amendments have been made to the State AgroInsurance Project, according to which the farmer with registered plot may use the AgroInsurance. The mentioned amendment applies not only to the agro insurance project but to all the agricultural projects implemented by the initiative of the Ministry of Environment Protection and the Ministry of Agriculture as well. Waiting period is determined for 4 days since the issuance of the insurance policy. All insurance companies licensed on the territory of Georgia will be able to be engaged in the agro insurance policy. 9 million GEL will be allocated from the budget for the new project of agro insurance. The agro insurance state project started in 2014 and has been underway for 4 years already. The purpose of the project is to develop the insurance market in agro-sector, promote agricultural activities, and maintain income and decrease risks (hail, flood, storm, fall frost) for the people engaged in agriculture activities. In the framework of the Agro Insurance Project in 2014- 2017: 68,879 policies have been issued The insured area amounts to 59,857 ha In total, the harvest for 465,587,547 GEL was insured The state has subsidized 29,384,426 GEL from the amount payable by the farmers for the insurance services. The compensation for 4 years amounted to 29,087,332.69 million Gel.
