Beneficiaries of Agroinsurance program are compensated for the damage caused by the hail
Ms. Natalia Kharatishvili, Head of the Operations Department of the Rural Development Agency, Mr. Irakli Shioshvili, Governor of Kakheti Region and the representatives of the insurance company Aldagi met with Mr. Tamaz Gugoshvili, the farmer affected by a hail in Kvareli Municipality, and inspected the damaged vineyard.
Heavy hail on April 29 in the village of Akhalsopeli, Kvareli Municipality destroyed 65% of the grape harvest of Tamaz Gugoshvili. The viticulturist farmer is a beneficiary of the state agro-insurance. Tamaz Gugoshvili will receive 37,125 GEL from the Aldagi Insurance Company as a compensation for damage. He paid half the amount - 2,868 GEL for the purchase of an insurance policy worth GEL 5,736 for an area of 4.5 hectares, and received 50% co-financing from the state.
Farmers can protect their crops from climatic risks. Under the agro-insurance program, the state's co-payment is 70% for all crops and 50% - for vines. The insurance policy covers insurance risks such as hail, floods, hurricanes and autumn frosts. I call on farmers to get involved in the state insurance program and insure their crops, - said Natalia Kharatishvili, Head of the Project Operations Department of the Rural Development Agency.
According to Irakli Shioshvili, Governor of Kakheti Region, it is important for farmers to use state support, insure their crops and be protected.
The Agroinsurance program is open to individuals or legal entities who own, use or actually own no more than 5 ha (in the case of wheat crop insurance - no more than 30 ha) area, including agricultural land.
As of May 31, 2021, the number of policies issued under the state agro-insurance program is 17,286, with more than 17,000 hectares of land insured.
