Hailstorm Damage Compensation for the Beneficiaries Involved in the State Program of Agricultural Insurance
Payment of the hailstorm damage compensation started in Kakheti region to the beneficiaries involved in the state agro-insurance program. Insurance companies will complete the calculation of the damage caused by the disaster as soon as possible, stated Natalia Kharatishvili, Head of the Operations Department of the Agricultural and Rural Development Agency, who together with the State Attorney - Governor in the Kakheti Region, Irakli Kadagishvili and the representatives of the Aldagi Insurance Company met with the farmers affected as a result of the hail in the Kakheti region and inspected the damaged lands.
The state is constantly improving the conditions of agro-insurance, within the framework of the anti-crisis agriculture plan; the agro-insurance for perennial crops has been extended to three years. The state finances 70% of the insurance policy for all crops and 50% for vines. We call on farmers to take measures and insure their crops, - stated Natalia Kharatishvili.
As the State Attorney - Governor Irakli Kadagishvili noted, although the anti-hail system operates effectively, the failures sometimes take place. The insurance aims at protection of farmers from such failures.
In the village of Sanavardo of Kvareli Municipality, Akaki Medulashvili lost 95% of his grape harvest due to hail. The viticulturist farmer is a beneficiary of the state agro-insurance. He has received 50% co-financing from the state for purchase of an insurance policy. Akaki Medulashvili will be indemnified more than 51,000 GEL from Aldagi Insurance Company. The amount paid by the farmer for insurance of up to 5 hectares is 3,103 GEL and the amount of the state subsidy is also 3103 GEL.
Individuals or legal entities who own, use or actually own no more than 5 ha farming land (in the case of wheat crop insurance, no more than 30 ha) can involve in the state agro-insurance program.
As of July 2020, 15,422 policies have been issued under the state agro-insurance program, with more than 15,000 hectares of land insured, which is 24% more than in the same period last year. The cost of the insured crop exceeds 140 million GEL.
