The amendments of agro-insurance projects were introduced to Samegrelo region farmersAfter the regions of Shida Kartli, Kakheti and Kvemo Kartli, the updated project of the agro-insurance was introduced to the farmers of Samegrelo region.In Zugdidi, Mr. Levan Magradze, the manager of Agro-insurance project of the Agricultural Projects Management Agency held the meeting with farmers and representatives of the administration of Samegrelo region. At the meeting the project manager had introduced the amendments of the agro-insurance project and provided the detailed information in regard of the project. State program of agro-insurance was commenced in 2014 year and has been in process for 2 years. In 2016 year, 9884 insurance policies were issued within the framework of the agro-insurance project, the volume of co-insurance premium of the government amounts to 6,237,200 GEL. In accordance with the amendments made in 2016 year, the beneficiary can insure the land parcel with area up to 5 ha, and instead of 60% of co-insurance sum each insurer will receive 70% for each culture provided under the co-insurance program, and 50% - instead of 40% envisaged for the vine.In case of registration of the land parcel at the public registry, or in case of insurance with existed cadastral code, the co-insurance sum will increase by 10%.The purpose of the agro-insurance program is the development of insurance market within the agricultural sector and support of agricultural activities.In the frames of the program, the farmers are encouraged to insure a crop against hail, excessive rainfall, storm, autumn frost.In 2014- 2015 within the agricultural insurance program: 28,690 policies issued Insured area totals 23,667 ha A total of 193,343,000 GEL crop has been insured Out of the insurance premium paid by the farmers, the state allocated the subsidies worth13,809,000GEL In 2 years the amount of damages incurred by the farmers totaled 12,434,000 GEL. This year, like the previous year, the agro insurance budget amounts to 10 million GEL. The project will last until the end of the year. Since 2013 Agricultural Projects Management Agency implements and manages large-scale long-term projects with the main goal to develop an environment that will help to increase competitiveness in agriculture, high-quality production steady growth, international food safety standards.
