Rehabilitation of tea plantations in Chiatura region is underway in the framework of the United Agro-Project
Cooperative - "Zodi Tea" is implementing rehabilitation of tea plantations in Imereti region within the framework of the program "Georgian Tea".
Levan Urotadze, the manager of the program "Georgian Tea" and local self-government representatives visited the cooperative financed in Chiatura region and inspected rehabilitation works.
The cooperative Zodi Tea was involved in the program on March 29, 2017 and will rehabilitate tea plantations on 9.05 hectares. Total cost of rehabilitation works - 22 500 GEL, 80% of the cost amounting 18,000 GEL will be financed by the Agriculture Project Management Agency. When the rehabilitated plantation is fully fruit-bearing (24-36 months), all necessary machinery for the primary processing of tea be will be transferred free of charge to the mentioned cooperative by the Agency.
17 beneficiaries are involved in the program "Georgian Tea" in Georgia. Total area of tea rehabilitation plantations is 515.89 hectares, and the total investment amounts to 1 285 989 GEL, from which 924 226.80 GEL is state co-financing.
The program "Georgian Tea" has been implemented since 2016, its purpose is to effectively utilize the capacity of tea plantations in Georgia, promoting the development of production of local tea (including bio tea), which will lead to improvement of self-sustainability level and increasing the export potential. It is also important that within the program it will be possible to rehabilitate both private and state-owned wild tea plantations. Legal entities, including agricultural cooperatives, will receive funding for rehabilitation of tea plantations.
