Otar Danelia, Minister of Agriculture met with the Chairman of Adjara AR Government Archil Khabadze and Minister of Agriculture of Adjara Zaur Putkaradze to bring forward issues related to citrus harvest picking season, furthermore, citrus preparing, packing and exporting issues were also discussed at the meeting. ,,We have discussed every single detail connecting to the preparing period. This year we have an abundant citrus season, accordingly we expect to pick about 100 000 tons of citrus. As for citrus sales markets , it should be noted that weve already got requirements from traditional markets. Therefore, we strive to find alternative markets as well. Wed like to encourage exporters. The government has decided that subsidies will be given for (non-standard) tangerines industrial processing. Per kg of tangerine will be co-financed by the Government with 10 tetri. Another 10 tetri will be paid by the processing plant. Thus, price for processing tangerine will be 20 tetri. This subsidy model was successful last year and we think, that it will work this year too, - Otar Danelia said. As the Chairman of Adjara AR Government noted, special ,,headquarter" coordination center will start working on November 1 to provide an organized manner of the season. Another citrus packing plant will be opened in Chakvi in the near future. Active works are underway for citrus sale in the Central Asia. Moreover, the Chairman stressed the importance of finding new export markets. Over 30 citrus packing plants will work on this season to export competitive and high quality citrus. Tangerine will be packed in plastic, cardboard and wood packages.
