The fruit processing enterprise Gemuani Ltd. equipped according to the modern standards, was established with the support of the financial assistance program of the N(N)LP Agricultural Project Management Agency in Zugdidi Municipality in 2017. The company buys fruit from about 40 local farmers, has 30 employees and processes 300 tons of fruit annually. Currently, the products are realized in both local and export markets. In December 2017, the company TV HELLAS (TV NORD) S.A awarded the ISO 22000:2005 certificate to Gemuani Ltd. It was made possible within the frames of cooperation of USAID/REAP and N(N)LP Agricultural Project Management Agency that provides for the introduction of the food safety management systems and standards in beneficiary enterprises through the joint efforts and co-financing by USAID/REAP and APMA (50% - USAID/REAP, 30% - APMA and 20% - the company). It is expected that as a result of certification, Gemuani Ltd. will be able to establish business contacts with more foreign buyers. Within the frames of USAID/REAP and APMA Cooperation Agreement, 17 agricultural businesses are now assisted in the implementation of the HACCP System and ISO 22 000 standard.
